Fenerbahce forward and Ecudorian Captain, Enner Remberto Valencia Lastra put his team two goals up at half time as Ecuador beat hosts Qatar, in the opening game of the 2022 FIFA world cup.

Although the hosts gave a seemingly good account of themselves in the game, played at the Al Bayt Stadium, they were no match for the South Americans who had an earlier goal by Valencia ruled offside.

With five goals, Captain Valencia has scored the highest number of goals in the World Cup final stage than any other Ecudorian player.
